The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council has announced a major shift toward digitizing Muslim affairs in Uganda with the launch of a new online platform aimed at improving service delivery, coordination, and communication within the Muslim community.
The announcement was made by the UMSC Secretary General, Hajji Abas Muluubya Ssekyanzi at Uganda National Mosque in Old Kampala.
Speaking to congregants and journalists, Ssekyanzi revealed that the Council is rolling out a centralized digital system designed to streamline operations across the country and enhance access to services for Muslims.
“The Council is moving toward a modern and efficient system that will improve coordination between the leadership, mosques, and the Muslim faithful,” Ssekyanzi said.
The new platform, developed under UMSC, will provide easier access to information and services through the website and telephone line.
According to Ssekyanzi, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to modernize religious administration in Uganda and ensure that services remain accessible to all Muslims regardless of their location or level of technology access.
“We want to ensure that every Muslim can access Council services conveniently through digital platforms,” he added.
Beyond the digital transition, the Secretary General also urged Ugandans to remain vigilant and observe Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the upcoming Eid al-Adha celebrations following reports of an Ebola outbreak in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo.
He encouraged the public to prioritize hand washing, use sanitizers regularly, and avoid contact with suspected Ebola cases in order to safeguard public health during the festive season.
Ssekyanzi further confirmed that preparations for Eid al-Adha, commonly known as the Feast of Sacrifice, as well as the observance of Arafah in Makkah, will proceed under strict health and administrative guidelines issued by the Council.
The launch of the digital platform marks one of the most significant administrative reforms undertaken by UMSC in recent years, signaling a new era of technology-driven religious coordination and service delivery in Uganda.
